At NFU Mutual in Aberdeen, we offer a range of insurance, pensions and investments with a personal, friendly local service.
We are fully committed to supporting local good causes in as many ways as we can do. Below are examples of what we have done.
Well another year is coming to an end and we here at the Aberdeen Agency think it’s about time we told everyone how much fun we’ve had helping local charities this year.
We huddled under our gazebo at the Westhill Gala. Unfortunately we didn’t have the same weather as last year, but we soldiered through running two competitions that day. One for the kids - they had to take a penalty kick, but there was twist - it had to be done using the NFU Mutual Monster Truck, not as easy as you’d think!
For the bigger kids, we had an anagram quiz. Thanks to Sue and Lorna for braving the rain to hand out every single one we had, in truth most were sold in the beer tent!
In total £220 was raised for the Westhill & Kingswells First Responders thanks to so many generous people. To find our more about their valuable work, have a look at their website: www.wkfirstresponders.co.uk
We sponsored the Westhill Golf Club open for the first time and apart from the weather it was a great success!! Charity scorecards were sold to the entrants, with all proceeds going to the Westhill Rotary club.
The Open was for anyone from any club to enter, but we were allowed a few places of our own, which were filled with a mixture of customers and colleagues. We split ourselves into 4 teams, with Scott, Peter and Ian captaining 3 of the teams and George from the Westhill Rotary in charge of the other band of brave souls.
There was a prize for the lowest cumulative score on the day and Ian (right) with team members Paul Paton (centre, Life Manager for Scotland) and Robert Milne (left, Customer) won through, despite their captain having the highest score of the day, someone forgot to tell him that highest wasn’t best!!
To conclude the event a well deserved steak supper and presentation of golf towels to the winning team, having raised £248 for Westhill Rotary Club.
Sue decided we had done enough boy stuff and organised a successful Body Shop party in aid of the Aberdeen Maternity Hospital Special Care Baby Unit. It was a fun evening full of delightful smells, girlie creams and potions. The odd glass of wine helped the ladies with their buying! Julie, our Body Shop representative offered a game of snatch raffle to end our evening.
A total of £150 was raised towards a Giraffe incubator which prevents the tiny babies getting cold while being tended to.
In summary, we have had another successful year raising over £2,500 for various local charities. We will be continuing our very rewarding work next year with the Gala and Westhill Open both appearing again. If you know of any worthy causes please get in touch.
We hope you have enjoyed our yearly round up, please point out any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors to Ian Bruce, as it was probably his fault.
Thank you to all of you who supported us at the Westhill Gala, a fantastic day was had by all. We were delighted to have raised £700 for First Responder, our local Scottish Ambulance Service first response unit, who will be using the money to buy a new training dummy 'Fat Old Fred'.
On Saturday 6th September, our branch held a casino night to raise money for Sue Ryder Care. Over 70 people attended and a fantastic £1430 was raised on the night. A big thank you to all who contributed. Many thanks also to everyone who contributed prizes and to the Westhill Rotary club who did a fantastic job running the casino.
From September 2008 until May 2009, we ran an "everyone's a winner" campaign. During this period, a donation was made for every new policy taken out. This resulted in a grand total of £2020 being donated to Westhill Rotary Club. This enabled help to be provided to Westhill Academy pupils, Westhill Primary and Nursery, Juniors at Westhill Golf Club and Westhill Scouts.
We were delighted to be recognised with the following awards from Aberdeen's Sue Ryder Care Charity.
Business Brains Outstanding Team of the Year 2008.
Business Brains Charity Entrepreneur of the Year 2008.
