As part of NFU Mutual's Community Giving Fund, which was set up to support community initiatives and charitable events local to its branch network we were delighted to be asked to attend St Vincent's Day Centre in Cheltenham recently to present a cheque to help with the ongoing development of their Sensory garden. The centre cares for people with mental and physical disabilities and the aim is to offer a unique experience to members with profound and multiple physical disabilities. Richard attended and is pictured presenting a cheque on behalf of NFU Mutual to Jo Greenwood one of the Centre's volunteers.
We were delighted to have been approached by Pates Grammar School of Cheltenham to sponsor their under 13's Rugby team's kit for the next 5 years. This has already led to some useful and exciting connections within the local area.
During the month of July we ran a Special Campaign with Wellchild whereby we donated a sum of money for every new policy written. We are delighted to announce that the office managed to raise the sum of £290.
Pictured to the right is Dorian Ursell from Wellchild being presented with the cheque.
As a result of our continued Sponsorship of Wellchild we are excited to announce that we have been invited to attend the sixth annual Wellchild awards Ceremony to celebrate the bravery and courage of the UK's sick children and reward the many Carers and Professionals who work tirelessly to support those young people and their families.
We were honoured to accept an invitation to attend the recent WellChild Awards for 2010 held at a prestigious hotel in London on 27th September. The event was hosted by TV breakfast and Strictly Come Dancing Champion Chris Hollins and celebrated the considerable achievements of Children, Young People, Families and Carers over the past 12 months. Although not able to attend this year in person, Patron Prince Harry sent a video massage to the winners and attendees.
Celebrities attending this years event included; Dragons Den Star Duncan Bannatyne, Mrs Rod Stewart; Model Penny Lancaster Stewart, Pop Group Scouting for Girls, Swimmer and Strictly Contestant Mark Foster, Model Sophie Anderton and Andy Abraham and Stavros Flatley of X Factor and Britain's Got Talent Fame respectively not to mention a host of others.

NFU Mutual Cheltenham is proud to sponsor an entire kennel block for Cheltenham Animal Shelter. Created in 1932 this local charity has been helping animals by providing kenneling for stray dogs, shelter for stray cats and helping to re-home unwanted small animals in the Gloucestershire area.
We are delighted to announce that we attended the Open day and dog show on 10th July. This is an annual event and this year Celebrity TV Vet Joe Inglis was on hand to give advice and sign autographs. We ran a raffle with a prize of a meal for two at the prestigious Spice Lodge restaurant in the heart of Cheltenham and this proved extremely popular resulting in the office obtaining over 70 renewal dates locally. We are proud to have been a part of such a successful day and are delighted that in excess of £2,000 was raised for the Animal shelter on the day
Moving forward into 2011 we have continued our support for the excellent work being done by the charity. Pictured left is Sales Executive Beth Morris presenting a cheque for £800 to the Charities' Education and Fundraising Manager Deborah Lake.
Continuing our support of the shelter, as a Sponsor we were invited to attend a recent fundraising re-launch party. To cope with the influx of animals Cheltenham Animal Shelter had had to employ an additional Re-Homing Officer, additional Animal Care Assistants and build ten new cattery pens. As a result the Shelter has obtained permission to re-develop its existing site.
The re-launch party was attended by over 80 local people including the Mayor's of Cheltenham and Tewkesbury, local members of the Cheltenham and Gloucester County Councils and TV Veterinary Surgeon Joe Inglis who gave a talk on Animal Welfare issues. Further talks were provided highlighting the work of the shelter and the role it plays in the local community not to mention the importance of the facility redevelopment.
We will be attending an Open Day on Saturday 9th July 2011. Why not come along, meet the team and join in the fun.
