NEST

What is NEST?

NEST is a pension scheme set up to support auto-enrolment.  It is funded by a government loan but is run independently of the government.

The NEST scheme is aimed at low to middle earners.  The scheme will make a contribution charge of 1.8% and an annual management charge of 0.3%.  The default fund within NEST will be the ‘Retirement Date’ fund, with the opportunity to invest in Higher Risk, Lower Growth, Pre-retirement, Sharia and Ethical funds. Contributions will be limited to a maximum of £4,200 per annum until 2017 and transfers in and out will not be allowed until at least 2017.

Employers have the option of choosing NEST to meet their auto-enrolment duties.

How do I find out more?

You need to start thinking about the strategy that you will have in place when your business qualifies for auto-enrolment. Forward planning will help to ensure that you introduce the changes in a managed way and minimise the impact that the pension reforms will have on your business. To discuss your requirements further please contact your NFU Mutual Financial Consultant.

The information on this page is based on NFU Mutual’s understanding of legislation and practice as at 9th August 2011 which is subject to change.
