At the start of 2010 NFU Mutual set stretching targets to reduce CO2, waste and water consumption by the end of 2012 as part of our environmental programme. These targets reflect our commitment to conduct our business responsibly and embed environmental principles across the business.
Our environmental programme has focused on our Stratford based offices where we can measure performance accurately. Where we cannot effectively measure environmental indicators, such as at many of our Regional offices (where utilities, waste disposal, water consumption etc. are shared), we are implementing localised programmes to encourage recycling and minimise waste of all resources.
Once effective measurement systems are in place we will work with those offices involved to set, and report on, environmental targets on an ongoing basis.
We continue to make significant and positive progress against each of our environmental objectives - more details of which can be found below.
Our target: Reduce CO2 direct emissions (utilities) per employee* by 5% per year by the end of 2012
How did we do?

Our target: Average emissions of 138g/km for all fleet vehicles by end of 2012 (with average of new fleet ordered to be 130g/km by end of 2012.)

Our target: less than 30% of office waste to landfill by end of 2012*.
