A group of Macclesfield farmers attended a special NFU Mutual Farm Safety training day recently and as a result obtained an NVQ qualification as evidence of their competence.
The course was held at Blaze Farm, Wildboarclough, courtesy of the Waller family and covered a range of topics such as safe operation of farm machinery, transport, livestock handling, dealing with emergencies and first aid. Following to the success of the course, we are planning another for February 2012 - contact the office if you are interested in attending.
A great day at Wincle Fete on 4th June. I'm probably tempting "Fete", but they always seem to get a fine day there, and this year was no exception, although it was a bit windy up on Francis and Shirley Goodwin's farm. There was a good turnout of over 300 for the Trout Run (local fell race where all entrants get a fresh trout!), and the NFU stand was busy all day with youngsters wanting to see and hold the chicks we brought along.
Congratulations to Macclesfield Young Farmers hockey team, whom we sponsored earlier this season. They were narrowly beaten in the cup final recently, which wasn't bad considering it was their first year. Well done!
