Fund factsheets

Yield refers to the income return on an investment. For equities (shares in a company), this would be the dividend and for a bond (issued by a Government or a company), it would be the coupon.

It is usually expressed annually as a percentage based on the investment's cost, its current market value or its face value.

This indicates whether the fund is available for ISA investment.

ISA stands for Individual Savings Account. Further information on Stocks & Shares ISAs is available on the Select ISA webpage.

These are the fund’s unique identification codes. SEDOL stands for “Stock Exchange Daily Official List” and ISIN stands for International Securities Identification Number.

These codes help investors who wish to look-up their funds using external data sources.

AMC stands for Annual Management Charge. This is expressed as a percentage of the funds invested and represents what NFU Mutual charge annually for managing the fund.

Crown Ratings (FE crowns) are awarded to funds by specialist rating company Financial Express. They are an authority on performance measurement, and they provide Crown Ratings for all UK authorised unit trusts and OEIC funds.

Crown Ratings are compiled using three key measurements of a fund's performance. They are alpha (or growth), volatility (price movement) and consistency.

Within each sector, the top 10% of funds will be awarded five FE crowns, the next 15% four crowns and each of the remaining three quartiles three, two and one crown respectively.

Each fund on the Financial Express database is categorised within sectors and for each sector Financial Express provides sector average data. This represents the performance of the average fund and offers a useful comparison by which to evaluate the performance of individual funds relative to their peers.

Quartile ranking is based on the ranking of the funds within a sector over the period being measured. The ranking is then split into four levels (25% each). First is top (best), and fourth is bottom (worst). Quartile ranking provides another guide to how consistently a fund has performed relative to its peers.
