Welcome to our NFU Mutual branch in Peterborough. We have been a part of Peterborough life for over 90 years and therefore feel justified when we say that we know the area, and know the people.
The NFU Mutual in Peterborough is very grateful to all of our featured customers who allowed us to have our pictures taken with them. Please find more information on each of the customers below.
Having insured with us for more years than either they or we can remember, the Morton and Frisby families are firm supporters of NFU Mutual. Not only do they have extensive arable farming interests, they contract farm many more acres, have a beef herd from which they own Willowbrook Farm Shop is supplied.
Top Flora is the British division of one of the major exporters of ornamental plants and flowers in the Netherlands. Their bouquets, flower arrangements, plants and plant arrangements can be found throughout Europe. NFU Mutual in Peterborough has helped them with their insurance requirements from the initial setting up, through to their fully operational status in the UK.
When Heather and Adrian Gee realised that their home had a mind of its own and was ‘moving’ it was a quite a shock. After measurements and monitoring, surveyors and site visits, it was finally agreed that the house was beyond salvation. “With the help of NFU Mutual we now have a lovely new home which is perfect to bring up our three children” said Heather.
John Clare (1793-1864), known affectionately as the peasant poet, lived in the village of Helpston for his first 40years. In 2005 the John Clare trust purchased this cottage and restored it using traditional building methods. They have since restored the dovecote and constructed a timber framed visitor centre. Lynn Jackson Project Manager commented, “Throughout the work the Peterborough Agency liaised with the Trust to ensure that appropriate insurance cover was put into place at each stage of the development. It gave us great peace of mind to know that they were available to discuss our needs and act on our requests.” For more information, please visit the Trust at www.clarecottage.org.
Waldberg Shires are run by Elspeth Ross and David Lawless and are based at the Shire Horse Centre at Sacrewell Farm. They supply horse drawn vehicles for weddings, funerals and promotional work, but most notably, provide a team of six shires to pull the coach for the Lord Mayor’s parade in London. “The Peterborough NFU Mutual office has been involved from the start of Waldberg Shires and really takes an interest in what we do. As a small business, we appreciate the personal service and help we receive from the office team,” said David. If you would like to find out more information about the horses, or perhaps arrange a training day, please visit their website at www.waldbergshires.co.uk.
The Copper Kettle Tearoom opened in March 2007. It is the brainchild of Sue Hartley, who dreamed of turning part of the beautiful 18th century building in North Street, Crowland, near Peterborough, into a traditional teashop harking back to a bygone era. She employed the talents of an artist to hand-paint flowers on the walls inside. Very sadly, Sue died before she could see the shop open and her husband, John, who is immensely proud of his wife’s vision, now runs the tearoom. It boasts three tulips in South Holland District Council's Food Hygiene Ratings, and NFU Mutual in Peterborough are very pleased to be able to insure such a delightful venue.
The NFU Mutual has been involved with the Horrell family ever since they supplied the local milk to Peterborough. In pride of place on our photos with farmer, Charles Horrell, is Pode Hole Madeleine Zeta who last year, after taking reserve interbreed champion at the East of England Show, went on to be crowned Royal Highland Show breed champion and half of the reserve champion Burke Trophy team at the Royal Show. Her half brother Pode Hole Beefeater was the top price shorthorn bull at Stirling Bull Sales in February 2010. Charles Horrell is also our local assessor and member of the branch NFU committee and comments, “Dealing with a local office who understand our business means a quick response when we need it and staff who are prepared to go the extra mile to help us.” Please visit the farm website at www.horrell-podehole.co.uk.
