Lambing Day – Sunday 11 March 2012

Will take place as usual at Manor Farm, Morborne PE3 7TG between 11 am and 4 pm.

For 16 years, Manor Farm, Morborne has opened its gates to the general public to allow them to experience the sounds, sights and smells of a working farm. 2011 was no exception and fine weather brought around 2000 visitors of all ages through the gates. On offer was a chance to win a tractor, to clamber onto a combine harvester and, of course, to see lambs being born – unfortunately, no lambs arrived whilst visitors were there but two were born that evening.  Better luck in 2012 – maybe !

Lambing Day is organsied by the local branch the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) - Peter Brewer is the branch secretary and over the years has raised many thousands of pounds for various charities.  For more information about the work of the NFU, please visit www.nfuonline.com or telephone the office on 01733 361066.

Royal Agricultural Benevolent Society

Royal Agricultural Benevolent Society (R.A.B.I.)

The Cambs Committee has concluded another successful year of fundraising ensuring that the amount of money raised marginally exceeded that conferred on the wide variety of beneficiaries across the County. 2011 events included  a Fine Arts Preview Evening at Cheffins in Cambridge and a Raffle which will concluded at the Autumn Show at the East of England Showground.

In addition great fun was had at the Welly Supper – also at the East of England Showground on the evening prior to the Autumn Show.  A hearty supper is served, decorated wellies are judged and RABI benefits from a donation from the Agricultural Society for each person attending plus the proceeds of the raffle.

Events planned for 2012 include:

  • A Country House Sale Preview Evening ion 19 April at Sworders of Stansted Mountfitchet (in conjuction with Essex and Suffolk RABI committees)
  • Numerous beacons being lit on 4 June in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee
  • And a completely new venture – a Wine Pairing Evening is planned for September so if you delight in specially selected French wines complementing a carefully prepared dinner – this could be for you.

More information can be found on their website at www.rabi.org.uk or telephone the office on 01733 361066.
