Ladies Health & Safety Day This was a  joint exercise with Tom Shepherd of our Market Harborough branch. There were 9 attendees who all found the presentations useful, as well as enjoying an excellent buffet lunch and raising £143 for the Air Ambulance.

Success at Mercury Business Awards 2011

Success at Mercury Business Awards 2011 We were delighted to be announced as runners up in the ‘Business of the Year’ and ‘Team of the Year’ categories at the Mercury Business Awards 2011 held at the end of May. The awards celebrate the successes of local businesses in the Stamford, Rutland and Bourne area.

More than 200 guests packed Greetham Valley Hotel, Golf and Conference Centre for the dinner and the awards, which were hosted by Mercury editor Eileen Green.

The team of the year award is about having a good team that is key to the business's success.

For the business of the year award, we had to demonstrate that it had a year to celebrate and show excellence in operations and performance, continuous improvement and have a clear vision for the years ahead. And we also had to demonstrate good profit and good policies towards its people and customers.

Commenting on our achievement, Senior Agent Roberts Burns said "It's an honour and a privilege to be considered for these awards and to be recognised outside your own field. It is a tribute to the cooperation between us and our team, NFU Mutual and the clients that we serve."

Time & Timings

Time & TimingsWe held another successful and well attended event at Greetham Valley golf club in Oakham at the beginning of May.

The evening included a presentation on the history of clocks and the current clock/watch market by James Lowe from Lyon & Turnbull Auctioneers & Valuers. Guests were also invited to bring along their own timepieces to be valued. Chris Linpow, NFU Mutual’s Investments expert gave a short talk about the financial markets.

We're already planning our next event which will be held at Boughton House in Northamptonshire.

Tea Cakes & Antiques

Rushton HallAt the end of September we organised a fabulous afternoon of Tea Cakes & Antiques at Rushton Hall in Northamptonshire.

The day included an illustrated talk by Campbell Armour, Director at Lyon & Turnbull Auctioneers & Valuers on the History of Tea and Antiques featuring teapots, tea cups, tea caddies, tea spoons and more. We entertained over 40 guests and some even brought their own items to be valued.

Afterwards adjourned to the Great Hall for home baked scones with clotted cream and strawberry jams, a selection of finger sandwiches and a variety of delicious cakes.

Lyon & TurnbullOur Financial Consultant Martin Scholes was on hand to help with the cakes and answered some tricky questions about investments or financial planning.

Rutland Water Sponsored Cycle

R.A.B.IIn the name of charity 14 staff from the office, including our Sales Consultant Dave Howe and Financial Consultant Martin Scholes, donned our lycra and set out to cycle the 16 mile circuit around Rutland Water on Sunday 25th April.

Stamford team prepare for Rutland Water RABI CycleRutland Water is the largest lowland man made lake in Western Europe and the cycle track apparently ‘offers some of the best casual leisure cycling in the country.’ The cycling didn’t feel that casual so we were delighted that the whole team completed the circuit in a respectable two and a half hours.

The cycle wasn’t just for fun but also raised over £1,000 for RABI, farming's national charity which provides care and support for retired farmers, farm workers and their dependents.
