The staff and agents at Wareham NFU decided to dress up for Halloween and as you can see from the picture it was a spooky day!! Treats were available for customers on the day!

The Wareham agency took part in this year's Wareham Carnival, a community event to raise money for local charities in the area. The theme for the float was Superheroes and their were princesses of power as well as transformers aboard the float provided by Tim Crew of wareham. The event was well attended with the streets lined full of supporters and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Watch out for us at next year's carnival!!

“We are absolutely delighted that NFU has chosen Lewis-Manning Hospice as their charity of the year and look forward to what their support brings. Through a day hospice service and clinics Lewis-Manning supports over 650 local people living with cancer and other life threatening illnesses. We are partially funded by the NHS, but the remaining £50,000 a month we need to raise ourselves, so the support and generosity of companies such as NFU is invaluable and makes a huge difference in the lives of local people. We are currently working on the Time to Care Appeal to raise £2.5 re-build the hospice with a bedded-unit for overnight respite and rehabilitation – so NFU’s support couldn’t have come at a better time! Thank you NFU for being a part of the new build.”

Wareham does the double - Mary and Simon are very proud to have retained the Dorset cup this year for retention and recruitment of farming members in Purbeck, Wareham and Blandfordfor a second year running. They would like to thank their farming members who have remained loyal to the group and who continue to support the fantastic work of the NFU locally, regionally and nationally. A special huge thank you goes out to our farmers who actively helped us to recruit new members into the fold this year. We couldn't have done it without you!

To support this years Children In Need the Wareham branch run an auction for local farmers to bid for half a day's labour on the farm by their staff. The event raised £100 for Children In Need and the team will be working on Mr Vearncombe's farm in Kimmeridge in the next couple of weeks. Watch this space for an update...!

The 30th September saw the Wareham branch dust their wellies down and wear them to celebrate NFU Mutual’s 100th birthday. Homemade cakes were made to raise money for 'Farm Crisis Network' registered charity. The cake sales made £90 with the agency matching that giving a grand total of £180 to be donated to the charity. Simon Godding, main agent for Wareham said 'We would like to thank local businesses and farmers for sampling our culinary delights and for their generous donations. We are pleased to support 'Farm Crisis Network' which has been co-ordinated in Dorset by retired farmer and Purbeck countryside member, Nick Viney.

NFU Wareham supported the Careline Beer Festival at the Weld Arms in East Lulworth which proved to be a great success. Our donation has contributed to helping Careline raise around £5.5k this year.

Bovington Equestrian RAC Saddle Club

Purbeck & Wareham Young Farmers Club

Wareham NFU Mutual are sponsors of Purbeck & Wareham Young Farmers Club's events such as The Ploughing Match.

We are supporting the Wareham and Purbeck Young Farmers Club and Vintage Ploughing Committee's 35th annual ploughing match. This event takes place on Sunday 3rd October at East Stoke. The club are raising funds to help Bliss, the special care baby charity, providing support and care to premature and sick babies across the UK.

We are supporting the Blandford Young Farmers Annual Ploughing match on the 11th September.

The Dorset Cup

In 2009 the Wareham branch won the Dorset NFU cup for outstanding retention and recruitment of NFU members in the Wareham & Purbeck and Blandford areas reflecting the team's efforts in a busy year of hard work with NFU members in this area. The Wareham NFU Mutual sponsored a "Swot of the Year" trophy for the Young Farmers Club quiz night at Furzebrook Village Hall. The winning team was also sponsored per correctly answered question and awarded the trophy and a raffle was held. All proceeds were donated to the Haiti Earthquake victims.

October 31st 2009

The Wareham team were involved in helping local farmers to organise a fundraising evening in support of cancer charity Clic Sergeant. "Any Buckin' Excuse for a Party" was hosted at West Hill Farm in Kingston with skittles, the Young Farmers bar, a buckin' bronco and hog roast. The highlight of the evening was a fantastic raffle including many generous gifts donated by the local community. Funds were raised in excess of £1000 for Clic Sergeant and a thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all.
