Critical Illness Policy FAQ
What is Critical Illness insurance?
It is an insurance policy that will pay out a lump sum if you are diagnosed with one of the critical illnesses we define in our policy during the term of the policy and survive at least 30 days. The illnesses that are covered are listed below. Exclusions can apply.
This type of policy is for your personal protection and peace of mind, to enable you to look after yourself and your family should you become seriously ill.
Am I eligible?
You must be aged between 18 and 65 years old to take out a policy.
What policy term will I need?
You can decide how long you want this cover for. It can be any whole number of years between a minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 35 years, providing that the policy ends before your 70th birthday.
If you are unsure how long you think you should have the policy for, you can speak to one of our Financial Consultants who can advise you.
How much cover will I need?
You can choose the amount of cover that you want. It may be enough to cover potential home modifications needed such as wheelchair ramps, or to pay off outstanding debts.
What if I don't know how much cover and term of policy that I require?
If you are unsure how much cover you will need, or the appropriate length of policy, NFU Mutual Financial Consultants and Customer Telephone Advisers can recommend appropriate policy details dependent on your current circumstances.
Your cover should always be reviewed as future inflation could make the lump sum worth less than it would be today.
What happens if a claim isn't made?
At the end of the policy term, if a claim has not been made, the policy ends and is no longer valid.
If a claim is made, what then happens to the policy?
The policy will only pay out once. Then the policy will end.
How do I pay for this policy?
You pay a monthly or annual premium throughout the term of your policy. We guarantee that your level of premium will not increase.
