OEIC funds

Select ISA or Select Investment Fund

NFU Mutual has a number of OEIC funds available for an investor who holds an NFU Mutual Select ISA or Select Investment Plan. We have a number of funds with varying levels of risk to suit different investors. Find out more about our risk ratings.

We have three types of funds:

  • “Mutually Managed”: NFU Mutual funds investing in a mix of markets - for investors wanting to leave investment decisions to us.
  • “Market” selection: Funds managed by NFU Mutual which invest in a single type of asset or market - for those wanting to take a more active role in investment decisions.
  • "Select" Funds: Funds selected by NFU Mutual but which are externally managed and which invest in a single type of asset or market - also for those wanting to take a more active role in investment decisions.

Types of OEIC fund by risk category

Risk Level One

Deposit fund

Please note this is only available in the NFU Mutual Select Investment Plan.

Type: Market selection fund

Objective: To provide capital protection with some income.

Policy: The fund will invest in cash deposits with not more than 20% in any one institution. The fund is able to invest in near-cash instruments to increase yield where required. The fund may use financial derivatives, but only for hedging or efficient portfolio management purposes.

If all or part of your investment is in the deposit fund, please remember that this is intended to be a temporary haven while deciding where to invest for the longer term. The fund isn't intended for long term investment.

Risk Level Two

Gilt and Corporate Bond fund

Type: Market selection fund

Objective: To provide a return from a portfolio investing primarily in gilts and investment grade corporate bonds.

Policy: The fund will invest in a portfolio primarily of government and corporate bonds and other fixed and floating rate securities denominated mainly in sterling and issued by governments, government agencies, supra nationals and corporate issuers (including preference shares).  Corporate bonds and other securities purchased by the fund will be of investment grade. The fund may also invest in other transferable securities and collective investment schemes. The fund may use financial derivatives but only for hedging or efficient portfolio management purposes.

As well as investing in the Government of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, the fund may invest in Government and other public securities of the following EEA States: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Sweden and, in addition, the Governments of Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland and the United States of America.

There is a risk that issuers of the bonds the fund invests in may not be able to pay interest or repay their debt.  Credit risk and/or changes to interest rates will have a significant impact on the performance of fixed income securities issued by companies.  Potential, or actual, credit rating downgrades may increase the level of perceived risk.

Risk Level Three

Mixed Portfolio 20 - 60% Shares

Type: Mutually managed fund

Objective: The investment objective of the Mixed Portfolio 20 - 60% Shares fund is to generate some potential long term capital growth and stable income.

Policy: The Mixed Portfolio 20 - 60% Shares fund invests in the NFU Mutual Portfolio funds OEIC Mixed Portfolio 20 - 60% Shares fund, managed by N.F.U. Mutual Unit Managers Limited. The Mixed Portfolio 20 - 60% Shares fund will invest principally in other funds managed by N.F.U. Mutual Unit Managers Limited with the balance invested in third party funds with compatible objectives. It is intended that through N.F.U. Mutual Unit Managers Limited funds and these other funds, the fund will gain exposure to a mix of UK and International equities, fixed income stocks, cash and property.

The fund will typically maintain 25% – 35% exposure to UK companies and a similar proportion in fixed income stocks with the balance in International equities, property and cash.

The NFU Mutual Portfolio funds OEIC Mixed Portfolio 20 - 60% Shares fund will invest in assets some of which themselves have annual management charges. The effect of these charges, which may change over time, is reflected in your illustration, and is currently estimated to be 0.10% per year.

Invesco Perpetual Global Bond Fund

Type: Select Funds

Objective and Policy: The fund is mainly invested in government bonds. It aims to achieve a combination of income and capital growth over the medium to long term. The fund seeks to achieve its objective by investing primarily in debt securities and currencies globally.

Threadneedle High Yield Bond Fund

Type: Select Funds

Objective and Policy: The aim of the fund is to provide income. The fund invests at least two-thirds of its assets in high income paying bonds (which are similar to a loan and pay a fixed or variable interest rate) issued by companies worldwide. High income paying bonds are bonds that have received lower ratings from international agencies that provide such ratings. These bonds are considered riskier than higher rated bonds but typically pay a higher income.

Risk Level Four

Mixed Portfolio 40 - 85% shares

Type: Mutually managed fund

Objective: The investment objective of the Mixed Portfolio 40 - 85% shares fund is to produce long-term capital growth and moderate income.

Policy: The Mixed Portfolio 40 - 85% shares fund will invest principally in other funds managed by N.F.U. Mutual Unit Managers Limited with the balance invested in third party funds with compatible objectives. It is intended that through the funds of N.F.U. Mutual Unit Managers Limited and these other funds, the fund will gain exposure to UK and International equities with approximately 25% in fixed income stocks and cash. The fund will typically maintain 40% - 50% of its exposure to UK companies and 25% - 35% in International companies with the balance in fixed income and cash. Please note this fund can invest up to 85% in equities.

Standard Life Investments UK Real Estate Feeder Income

Type: Select Funds

This fund is a Feeder fund. The fund will invest all, or substantially all, of its capital in the shares of the Standard Life Investments UK Real Estate Feeder Income.

Risk Level Five

Mixed Portfolio Max 100% Shares

Type: Mutually managed fund.

Objective: The investment objective of the Mixed Portfolio Max 100% Shares fund is to provide high long-term capital growth.

Policy: The Mixed Portfolio Max 100% Shares fund will invest principally in other funds managed by N.F.U. Mutual Unit Managers Limited with the balance invested in third party funds with compatible objectives. It is intended that through the funds of N.F.U. Mutual Unit Managers Limited and these other funds, the fund will gain exposure to UK and International equities typically with 40%-60% in UK companies, 40%-50% in International equities and the remainder in fixed income securities, cash and money market instruments. The high equity content is intended to achieve an appropriate balance between risk and reward. Please note this fund can invest up to 100% in equities.

Global Growth fund

Type: Market selection fund

Objective: To achieve long-term capital growth through investment in any country and in any economic sector of the world.

Policy: The fund will invest primarily in equity securities of companies based anywhere in the world. Although investments will be made in any country, the fund will generally invest in markets that in the fund manager’s opinion are the world’s major equity markets. The fund may also invest in other transferable securities, money market instruments, collective investment schemes, deposits, cash and near cash. The fund may use financial derivatives but only for hedging or efficient portfolio management purposes.

UK Growth fund

Type: Market selection fund

Objective: To achieve long-term capital growth with a moderate but growing income, by investing primarily in shares of UK companies.

Policy: The fund will invest primarily in shares of companies which are domiciled in the UK or which have a significant part of their activities in the UK but which are domiciled or quoted on a market outside the UK. The fund may also invest in other transferable securities, money market instruments, collective investment schemes, deposits, cash and near cash. The fund may use financial derivatives but only for hedging or efficient portfolio management purposes.

UK Equity Income fund

Type: Market selection fund

Objective: To achieve income in excess of the FTSE All Share Index with some capital growth by investing primarily in shares of UK companies.

Policy: The fund will invest primarily in shares of companies which are domiciled in the UK or which have a significant part of their activities in the UK but which are domiciled or quoted on a market outside the UK. The fund may also invest in other transferable securities, money market instruments, collective investment schemes, deposits, cash and near cash. The fund may use financial derivatives but only for hedging or efficient portfolio management purposes.

Aberdeen Ethical World Fund

Type: Select funds

This fund aims to grow your capital by investing mostly in international companies around the world. The Fund Manager chooses companies on the basis of thorough fundamental company analysis and ethical and socially responsible criteria.

Old Mutual UK Smaller Companies Fund

Type: Select Funds

Objective and Policy: The fund aims to provide capital growth from investing primarily in a portfolio of UK Smaller companies.  The UK Smaller Companies Fund is an actively managed Fund.

Risk Level Six

Global Emerging Markets fund

Type: Market selection fund

Objective: To achieve long-term capital growth primarily through diversified exposure to emerging markets of the world.

Policy: The fund will primarily invest directly or indirectly in companies that are incorporated in emerging markets or companies which have a significant part of their activities in or derive the majority of their revenue from emerging markets. The fund will invest primarily in equity securities either directly or indirectly through collective investment schemes. The fund may also invest in other transferable securities, money market instruments, collective investment schemes, deposits, cash and near cash. The fund may use financial derivatives but only for hedging or efficient portfolio management purposes.
