Donations in Kind

How our furniture donations are making a difference.

Alongside financial donations and practical help, NFU Mutual supports charities through donations in kind. A key way we deliver this support is by donating office furniture and equipment that is no longer required by our business, giving useful items a second life for community use.

This helps charities reduce costs and make the most of available resources.

About our furniture donation scheme

The scheme, coordinated by NFU Mutual's Properties team, who oversee our offices and manage furniture and equipment when items are no longer needed. Working with charities and community organisations, they help find new homes for these items so they can continue to be used and benefit local communities.
By redistributing furniture and equipment that is no longer required, the scheme supports our Responsible Business ambitions through responsible waste management, reducing environmental impact and providing practical support to communities. Through the scheme, organisations such as community centres and hospices have been able to improve their spaces and continue delivering vital services to the people they support. Giving these items a second life helps reduce waste, care for the environment and strengthen communities.

Our impact

The furniture scheme has been running for over 15 years, and 2025 marked our biggest year of donations to date. Across the year, 1,422 items were donated to local organisations, Click here to see the causes our we have supported during 2025, through our donations in kind programme.
One charity to benefit was Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind, receiving nearly 700 items of furniture.
Steven Hill, CEO from Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind, says:  “ We’re incredibly grateful to NFU Mutual for their generous gift of furniture, which has helped us create welcoming spaces for children and young people in Coventry, as well as for our new venue in Worcester. This was a significant donation of high-quality items – including tables, chairs, sofas, screens, office equipment and soft furnishings – that will benefit our entire organisation.”

Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind received nearly 700 items of furniture through NFU Mutual’s Donations in Kind scheme, helping create welcoming spaces for children, young people and the wider community.

In addition, a further 4,058 items of furniture were redistributed through Waste to Wonder, a social enterprise that supports charities and community organisations. This partnership helps extend the life of surplus office furniture by ensuring items such as desks, chairs, and storage equipment are reused by causes.  Find out more about Waste to Wonder
This approach not only maximises social impact but also contributes to our B4SI impact reporting by demonstrating the value generated through donations in kind. By giving useful items a second life, it supports our commitment to sustainability, reduces waste and aligns with our participation in the Buy Social Corporate Challenge, helping to embed social value into the way we manage and redistribute resources.
