Valuing our people

Making a difference

We’re committed to making a difference and always doing our best for our communities. But that wouldn’t be possible without the best people working for us. So we work hard to create an environment where our employees can grow and flourish, where they’re engaged, and where they’re empowered to make a difference of their own.

Employment and training opportunities for all

We’re keen to offer opportunities to build careers in the financial sector. In 2017 we launched a new Apprenticeship Programme, and we now have over 80 apprenticeship starts across our business. We’re helping their development and they’re helping with ours.

Women in finance

We’ve always believed that diversity in a business can increase the breadth and quality of debate. To show our commitment, we signed up to HM Treasury’s Women in Finance Charter, which asks financial businesses like ours to commit to improving gender diversity at senior levels across the sector.

Learning and development

We provide technical certifications, personal development, and leadership development opportunities across our business. In 2018 we launched a new learning technology that is designed to make training more easily accessible, and connect employees digitally to enhance their development and knowledge-sharing experience. In 2018 we also welcomed 22 graduates onto our award-winning professional training programme.

Employee volunteering

Our employees don’t have to be at work to do a good job. Through our Employee Volunteering programme, we allow members of staff to take time off work to help good causes in their local community. In 2019, 626 employees volunteered 4,382 hours to make a difference for local causes such as schools, hospices, foodbanks and the National Trust.
