Our mutuality

What's a mutual?

Put simply it means we have no shareholders.

Who benefits from our mutuality?

We're not driven by profit to pay out shareholder dividends, we're driven exclusively by a commitment to keep our charges amongst the lowest in the industry, so that it's our customers who benefit. For general insurance customers this means keen prices, wide cover and good service and for our Financial Services customers it's low charges, quality investment returns and personalised service.

In order that current and future generations of customers continue to enjoy the benefits of mutuality all new policies issued by NFU Mutual contain a windfall assignment clause. Effectively this means that in the unlikely event of de-mutualisation any windfall payment arising from the policy you are taking out would be paid to The NFU Mutual Charitable Trust rather than the policyholder.

Mutual status

The National Farmers Union Mutual Insurance Society Limited is a mutual company. We do not have any shareholders and we do not therefore pay dividends. Our policyholders are members of the company and are subject to its Memorandum and Articles of Association by virtue of the acceptance of insurance products issued by us.

Our commitment to Mutuality

We are a composite insurer providing insurance, pension and investment products. We are a member of the Association of British Insurers.

NFU Mutual agents and local NFU Mutual branches can provide information and advice solely on products from NFU Mutual. Agents and local branches can also introduce life, pensions and investment products on behalf of NFU Mutual and may pass your details to an NFU Mutual Financial Consultant in relation to these products.
