Getting a car insurance quote - the information we'll ask you for

To get a quote for car insurance, you'll need to speak to us over the phone. When you do, we'll help you to get the cover you need.

So that we can provide you with a quote as quickly as possible, we've put together a list of the information we'll ask you for. 

Before contacting us, please make sure you have all the required information to hand.

Details of the cover you'd like

How and how will use the car(s)

About you

  • Date of birth and title.
  • Insurance history: Whether you have been refused insurance, had insurance cancelled, declared void (as though it never existed) or had any special terms or conditions imposed.
  • Financial history: whether you have been subject to any form of bankruptcy proceedings (whether discharged or not), e.g. Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVAs)/Trust Deeds, been subject to any other statutory insolvency proceedings, e.g. Company Voluntary Arrangements, at any time in the past and/or Court Judgments, e.g. CCJs, in the last five years whether satisfied or not.
  • Criminal history: if you have been convicted of any non-motoring offences in the last five years or have any prosecutions pending or unspent.
  • Employment status: if you work, your job and the type of business you work for.
  • Home ownership status: whether you are a homeowner.
  • Driving licence details: any restrictions the DVLA has placed on your licence.

About your driving history

  • The type of driving licence that you have. If you've held it for less than five years, we'll need to know the date it was issued.
  • Whether you've had any motor convictions (including pending) or fixed penalties in the last five years. If you do, we’ll need to know the relevant offence code.
  • How many claim-free years you've had while insured as a main driver. This will be your no claims discount.
  • Whether you normally protect your no claims discount.
  • Details of any incidents, including the date and claim value, that you've made in the last five years, whether you were at fault or not.

Details of cover you'd like

  • When you'd like your cover to start. We'll only be able to provide you with a quote if the start date is within the next 30 days.
  • What you would like your voluntary excess to be. This is the amount you'll pay if a claim is made on the policy, this is additional to the compulsory standard excess of the policy.

About the car(s)

  • Vehicle registration number.
  • Whether you are the legal owner and/or registered keeper.
  • When you bought it.
  • Its market value. If you have just purchased it, this is the price you paid. If the vehicle isn’t new, this is how much you would expect to sell the vehicle for. Valuation tools are available on the internet to help you work this out.
  • Details of any modifications to the vehicle.
  • The address the vehicle will be kept at.
  • How it will be kept at that address, e.g. in a locked garage or parked on-street in a residential area.

How and who will use the car(s)

  • How you will use the car: social, domestic and pleasure only (SDP), SDP and Commuting (SDPC) and SDPC and business use.
  • How many miles you expect to drive it in a year.
  • Who will drive it most - if you choose to add additional drivers we'll need to know their relationship to you, whether they live at the same address as you and the same information you have provided from the 'about you' and 'your driving history' sections, for them.
