NFU Mutual Agents and their staff at the local Canterbury and Sittingbourne agency are delighted to have nominated the local Pilgrims Hospice, to receive a donation of over £6,400 from a national £2m ‘Agency Giving Fund’ launched by NFU Mutual’s Head Office.
In light of the national emergency this country is facing, NFU Mutual, the UK’s leading rural insurer, has allocated £2m to help local frontline charities at this difficult time. This follows £1million of support delivered by NFU Mutual’s Agency Giving Fund in 2020, which helped charities across many sectors to keep their life-changing services going throughout the pandemic.
To help ensure this support reaches all corners of the UK, NFU Mutual has reached out to its Appointed Representative network of local Agents. Consisting of circa 300 independent Agency businesses and 9 NFU Mutual Branches, each have been given the opportunity to nominate a handful of local charities to receive a share of this fund.
The donation will be used to support those under Pilgrims Hospices’ care to live independently for longer, even in these difficult times. Some of their patients will spend a short stay on one of the inpatient units in Canterbury, Thanet or Ashford for symptom control before returning home. For others, they will be supported by a team of therapists for fatigue management through telephone consultations whilst they can’t have face to face appointments.
James Hodge, Senior Agent at NFU Mutual Canterbury and Sittingbourne, said: “The Coronavirus pandemic has had a huge impact on everybody, including our customers and their local communities. Pilgrims Hospices are East Kent’s largest hospice charity and help people facing incurable illness to live well in every moment . We are proud to have been able to nominate this local charity to benefit from NFU Mutual’s national fund.”
Leila Ilkhan, Community Fundraising Manager, at Pilgrims Hospices, said: “ We are extremely grateful for the generous support that NFU Mutual Canterbury have shown to Pilgrims Hospices. With 80% of our funding coming from voluntary donations we simply wouldn’t be able to continue delivering the vital work to patients living with a terminal illness and their families without the support of our community. A huge thank you from everyone at Pilgrims Hospices for helping us to continue being there for those who need us care and support.”
NFU Mutual’s £2million Agency Giving Fund forms part of a series of initiatives NFU Mutual has committed for the benefit of customers and communities affected by coronavirus. To find out more, please visit our Coronavirus Information Hub.
