Celebrating National Tree Week

Celebrating National Tree Week - our volunteers join a planting day with The Tree Council

To celebrate National Tree Week, we’re proud to share an update on NFU Mutual’s partnership with national environmental charity The Tree Council.

NFU Mutual has a two year partnership during 2022 and 2023 with The Tree Council, to support their nature and conservation work in UK neighbourhoods as a Jubilee Partner for The Queen’s Green Canopy.  Collectively, as part of a team of 70 corporate partners, NFU Mutual is supporting the planting of an incredible 35,000 trees and seven kilometres of hedgerow in community spaces across the UK.

To mark National Tree Week, a team of colleagues from NFU Mutual undertook an employee volunteering day for The Tree Council, at Oakbrook Community Farm in Gloucestershire. Oakbrook Farm is Oakbrook Community Farm is an inspirational 42-acre publicly-owned biodynamic farm connecting people with land, food and nature.

During their volunteering day, the NFU Mutual team, along with other volunteers from other organisations, collectively planted 500 new trees and hedgerow plants on the farm. When it’s established, the area will offer many environmental benefits including helping to increase biodiversity, providing shelter, and preventing soil erosion.

Beth Pritchard, Community Engagement Consultant, who was one of the NFU Mutual volunteers who took part in the day, explained more: “From digging to mulching, and everything in between, we had a brilliant planting day. It feels so rewarding to know we’re helping to create a legacy for the future through our partnership with The Tree Council. We’re keen to revisit the farm in a couple of years so see how our planting is coming along.”
