Lower House Farm, Cardeston, Shrewsbury, SY5 9NQ (A458 between Shrewsbury and Welshpool)
Please join us for an evening farm visit around Agripost Compost and Anaerobic Digestion Facility followed by light refreshments. By kind permission of Mark & Matthew Gethin.
Since the turn of the Millennium the Gethin family have diversified their once dairy farm dramatically. The compost business, which has been operating for over 15 years now, takes in green and food waste from all over Shropshire and produces fully certified compost to be used as an agricultural or horticultural soil conditioner.
Alongside this, they operate an Anaerobic Digestion plant, which was commissioned in late 2014. This is fed primarily on food waste and generates 1.1MW of electricity (enough to supply over 2,000 homes!) as well as producing a fully certified biofertilizer for agricultural benefit.
Besides the organic recycling, the family also run two broiler poultry units, have a number of other renewables and farm just over 200 acres.
