We're committed to keeping you on the road, that's why our Car Insurance includes RAC breakdown cover as standard.
For our Car Insurance customers, we offer three levels of breakdown cover to best suit your needs. Our entry level of cover, Mutual Assist, is included with all of our Car Insurance* policies and includes accidental mis-fuelling, local recovery if over ¼ of a mile away from home and a small hire car for 48 hours.
For extra peace of mind, you can choose to upgrade your breakdown cover to ensure that whenever and wherever you need breakdown support, the RAC will be on hand to get your vehicle back on the road.
Upgrade to National plus Home Assist, our highest level of breakdown cover and benefit from key features such as:
- Home breakdown assistance - at, or within, 1/4 mile of your home.
- Roadside recovery - if your vehicle cannot be repaired at the roadside, recovery of your vehicle, as well as alternative travel arrangements for the driver and passengers to any UK destination, where the journey cannot be completed alongside your vehicle.
- Exclusive rates for NFU Mutual insurance customers.
- Personal service provided to all our customers by the dedicated NFU Mutual breakdown helpline team.

If you have a Light Goods Vehicle Insurance policy with us for your light commercial vehicle, then breakdown cover is not automatically included as standard. Please refer to your policy documents to check whether you chose to add National Assist.

If you have a Car Insurance policy with us, you will have, at a minimum, Mutual Assist breakdown cover which is included as standard on all car policies. Please refer to your policy documents to check whether you chose to add National Assist or National Plus Home Assist.
If you have motorhome or campervan insured under a Car Insurance policy with us or a Light Goods Vehicle Insurance policy, cover is not included as standard. Please refer to your policy documents to check whether you chose to add National Assist or National Plus Home Assist.
If you’re happy with the level of cover you have right now, you don’t need to do anything. However if you'd like to upgrade please contact who you purchased your policy from, either Mutual Direct, by calling 0800 197 1293, or your local agency office, find your local agency office.
