Air Ambulance Week 2023

Supporting a vital service in our communities

Air Ambulance Week 2023 takes off across the UK from 4 – 10th September. It’s a week dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the vital lifesaving work of air ambulance charities. Air ambulance charities collectively make over 37,000 lifesaving missions each year across the UK – each mission being funded almost entirely by the generosity of local communities.

Proud to give our support

NFU Mutual is supporting this campaign and is proud to support air ambulance charities across the UK through our charitable giving programmes.

On a national level, The NFU Mutual Charitable Trust recently donated £10,000 to Air Ambulances UK, the national charity supporting the lifesaving work of the UK’s air ambulance charities, enabling them to save even more lives every day.

Locally, NFU Mutual has donated more than £125,000 to regional air ambulance charities this year through our £1.92m Agency Giving Fund, thanks to 24 nominations from Agencies. The Telford Agency made one of these nominations, putting forward Midlands Air Ambulance for a donation of £6,443. The donation will fund two air missions and one critical care car mission, potentially saving three lives. Telford Agents Kate Hamilton and Neil Wagstaff recently visited Tatenhill Airbase to meet the Midlands Air Ambulance crew to find out first-hand about their vital service.

We also support air ambulance charities through staff fundraising activity, and on 23rd September a team of colleagues from our Customer Services Division will be taking on a hiking challenge in Wales to raise funds for The Air Ambulance Service.

Saving lives

Across the UK there are 37 air ambulance helicopters operated by 21 air ambulance charities, providing pre-hospital care support to the NHS and forming an important part of the UK’s frontline emergency services. Air ambulance charities collectively make over 37,000 lifesaving missions each year across the UK.

Air ambulance crews bring the Emergency Department to patients who have suffered a life threatening or life changing trauma or medical emergency; providing advanced critical care to save lives. On average an air ambulance can reach someone in urgent need within 15 minutes. Anyone, anywhere in the UK can become a patient at any time. Air ambulance charities are collectively dispatched to over 100 lifesaving missions each day across the UK; each mission is funded almost entirely by the generosity of local communities.
