British farming has seen remarkable progress since 1910 when seven visionary farmers came together to establish NFU Mutual. They started the business to encourage farmers into the newly established farming union through cost price insurance. We have been incredibly successful and long lasting: the first farming family who took out a policy back in 1910 remain a customer even now, twelve decades later.

That first farming customer is one of many who have been loyal to us throughout the generations – a loyalty that we work hard to retain.

Since our beginnings, our commitment to the rural farming communities has remained unwavering. As a mutual company, we have no shareholders, so prioritise our members interests and offer tailored insurance solutions to meet their unique farming needs. 

Supporting the rural community

We don’t just provide protection for farms. We also give back to the rural community in lots of different ways. In 2022, we invested £400,000 to tackle rural crime, which includes a dedicated police unit specialising in agricultural vehicle crime.
