We’ve been a champion of rural communities the length and breadth of the UK for over 100 years - supporting local causes is part of what we do day to day. During 2025 we’re proud to have distributed £2.33m to local charities across the UK, by continuing our ‘Agency Giving Fund’ initiative.

The Agency Giving Fund forms part of our £4m funding pledge for local and national charities in 2025.

The history of NFU Mutual’s Agency Giving Fund

In 2020, we recognised the vital need for supporting local frontline charities in light of the Coronavirus Pandemic, and this is when we first set up the Agency Giving Fund.

The fund is now in its fifth year. To date, we’re very proud to have distributed a total of £11.09m to champion the vital work of small, local, charities all across the UK.

We know that our agency businesses are best-placed in their communities to identify where local funds should be directed, so we invite them all to nominate local charities to receive a share of the fund. Our agency offices and branches cover more than 280 locations nationwide, so this ensures our donations reach all corners of the UK.

How our 2025 fund is making a difference

From providing food parcels, to supporting local hospices and wellbeing support groups, our 2025 Agency Giving Fund championed front-line charities across a broad range of sectors, helping to keep vital services going for our customers and our communities.

£1.2m of the fund was distributed to charities providing social welfare. One such cause is Oak Tree Farm Rural Project in Staffordshire, which was nominated by the Stafford NFU Mutual Agency. The charity provides training and supported occupation for adults with learning disabilities, in a rural environment.

Wendy Robinson, Chief Officer for Oak Tree Farm Rural Project, said “We are absolutely delighted to receive the donation. The money will go towards refurbishing the old toilet block and creating a staff room and quiet space.  The old toilets are no longer fit for purpose and need replacing so the grant will make a huge difference to the team members, staff and volunteers who use them.  Work is due to start in September on the new facilities.”

More than £1,050,000 has been directed to charities providing healthcare, including 45 nominations for local community hospices and 21 nominations for air ambulance charities.

St Mary’s Hospice in Cumbria received a donation following a nomination by the NFU Mutual Ulverston Agency. Annabelle Holloway, Corporate Partnerships Manager at St Mary’s Hospice, said: “This donation will go towards purchasing a new car for the hospice, to be used for fundraising, engagement and community outreach purposes. This vehicle will allow our fundraising and engagement teams to attend community events to raise vital funds and awareness for the hospice and will allow our Complementary Therapists to support people in the community facing a life-limiting diagnosis.”

Wales Air Ambulance also received donations from fund, as the chosen charity for the Tregaron and Llanybydder NFU Mutual agency offices. The charity will be using the donations to help pay for the fittings to enable them to install Babypods on board their aircraft, which will make a huge impact on the lives of their youngest patients.

The remaining funds, just over £80,000, were given to charities across the UK providing educational support to disadvantaged groups and individuals.

Nick Turner, Group Chief Executive at NFU Mutual, commented: “NFU Mutual is proud to be a purpose-led, member-driven organisation. We recognise that these are challenging times, and place great importance on our commitment to being there for our members and making a positive impact in local communities.

“We’re incredibly grateful to NFU Mutual Agents and their teams for the support they give to the Agency Giving Fund. Their local insight is helping to direct funding towards a wide range of causes, to help keep essential services going.”

We’ll be sharing more stories on the impact of the 2025 Agency Giving Fund over the coming weeks.
