Supporting the Next Generation of Agricultural Business Graduates
Are you planning to start an undergraduate degree in Agriculture?
NFU Mutual, the UK’s leading rural insurer, are now accepting applications for the Agricultural Undergraduate Award, aimed at young people who have a passion for UK agriculture and want to continue their development through higher education.
If you are planning to study for a BSc in Farm Business Management or Agriculture, starting in 2019, we want to hear from you. The award will give four selected students a £3,000 bursary to help support their tuition and living costs.
A perspective of two young farmers and Jimmy Doherty
How has Jimmy Doherty gone from living in a caravan on a derelict farm to running a highly successful diversified business? Will gets his perspective on how the industry has changed and also the thoughts of two young farmers, Claire and Ben. Part 1 is out and about on the farm.
Having heard Jimmy Doherty’s story out and about on his farm, Will and Jimmy, are taking a break in the restaurant to talk about running a farming business and building a brand, and hearing about young farmers, Claire and Ben, and their ambitions.
Who can apply for the Award?
To apply for the NFU Mutual Agricultural Undergraduate Award you need to meet the following criteria:
- You have been accepted (or provisionally accepted) on to an undergraduate agricultural course in the UK commencing autumn 2018.
- Your course features an element of business management. This could involve modules such as farm management and rural marketing.
- You have experience supporting your local farming community.
The Award aims to encourage new talent to enter the agricultural industry by supporting activity that enhances rural business skills.
If you are successful in receiving the Award, you will be asked to talk about what you have learnt about the industry and its opportunities during a visit to NFU Mutual Head Office. This will help demonstrate how the Award has helped contribute to your learning.
Recipients will also be able to contact NFU Mutual for any help regarding work experience, course projects and have access to recruitment material when they finish their studies.
